Exploring Depth of Field and Abstraction

Abstraction: Elements of reality that are altered for a creatively unrealistic effect in photography.

Abstract Photos Using Depth of Field:

Benoit Courti, 2013
This photograph uses depth of field to add interest to a simple action of blowing a bubble. With the background blurred, the viewer focuses on the texture of the bubble, adding a surreal effect to the photo.

Max Eremine, 2015
This is a great example of the foreground emphasizing shape and texture, with a a deeper background creating high contrast.

Examples:
Laurent Nivalle, 2016
This still of New York city captures a grunge and focal point on contrast with a
balance of a soft foreground with a sharp background. Thus adding a poetic feel to this piece.

Benjamin Vnuk, 2015
This portrait is really interesting because of the angular component, and how the emphasis is her eye, and how her hand covers half her face with a shallow depth of field is really compelling to the viewer. Shows more emotion about the person.
